Greetings! I'm Kate Taylor, the Creator of Watershed Events.
There is a universality to ceremony and celebration in all societies, informing us of their importance in human cultures. Where rites of passage have diminished, as we often see in our current social context, Watershed Events seeks to bring back the honoring of individuals and communities as they pass through key phases of life.
I have been involved in event production for over 20 years - including the Chautauqua Revue and seasonal plant sales at the Occidental Arts and Ecology Center, the Bioneers Conference's Moving Image Festival, the Sunny Hills Children's Services Grape Festival, and numerous private events - honing my skill set through a full range of positions from the ground up. The events that most inspired me to form Watershed Events have been ceremonies and celebrations involving rites of passage of the honorees. The outpouring of support I've observed from the witnessing community motivates me to offer such an experience to anyone who is moving through a notable time in his or her life.
As a certified Permaculture Designer, I apply the ethics of "care for the people; care for the earth; and reinvestment of the surplus" to the organization and operation of my company. I am committed to collaborating with local farmers, caterers, and entertainers; to seeking out venues that promote cultural or ecological values; and to developing systems that move this venture ever closer to producing zero waste.
My influences and inspirations include Burning Man, Day of the Dead, Fire Tribe gatherings, the Oregon Country Fair, playing with children, The Northern California Women's Herbal Symposium, and the Roaring 20's. I am passionate about costuming as an avenue to explore the myriad aspects of one's self.
I look forward to collaborating on your next event!
